The Post Office Tower - the tallest building of its day - opened in London on this day in 1965.

The BT Tower is a famous building on London’s skyline which all Londoners, commuters and tourists recognize. The circular building stands at 191 meters high, which is the same as 20 double-decker buses parked end to end. 


The buildings main purpose is a telecommunications center to relay broadcast, internet and telephone information around the world. Harold Wilson – the Prime Minister in 1965 - made the first telephone call from the tower.
