A Boxego Timeline journal entry...
The very first Woodstock Festival was billed as "An Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music".
It was held at Max Yasgur's 600-acre dairy farm in the Catskills near the the town of Bethel in New York and ran from the 15th August to the 18th August in 1969.
More than 400,000 people turned up to see the thirty-two acts that played in the sunshine and the rain.
As music event go, it is widely considered to be a seminal moment in the history of popular music culture, not least of all because of the lineup that included The Who, Joan Baez, Crosby Stills & Nash, Sweetwater, Janis Joplin, Santana, Grateful Dead, and of course Jimi Hendrix.
